Quinta da Sequeira, is a traditional family-owned estate located in Vila Nova de Foz Côa in the Douro Superior Region. Was founded in 1899 by José Joaquim Costa and his wife Maria José Sequeira, from whom the Quinta gets its name. Today, the estate, with 15 ha vineyards, is owned by José Joaquim Costa’s great-great-grand-daughter Maria da Graça, and her husband, Mário Cardoso.

The Quinta de Sequeira’s prime location in the Douro Superior is crucial for the superior quality of the grapes. The combination of a schist soil, a very low rainfall and a large thermic range, provides the most intense, rich and concentrated wines. The predominant red grape varieties present in the vineyards are Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela and Tinta Barroca. The white varieties are Malvazia Fina, Gouveio, Rabigato, Viosinho and Códega do Larinho.

Because we believe that a wine must have its own personality and character, in our 15 ha (37 acres) of vineyards we only grow the traditional grapes varieties from Douro. We also preserve the old vineyards, the oldest are over 100 years old, although less productive, they offer a superior wine concentration.

The Philosophy

The Quinta da Sequeira’s success is the result of passion, devotion, determination and hard work. The quality control begins in the vineyard, and each step, from the viticulture to the winemaking process is subject to severe standards of exigency. To reach this level of excellence, we grow all of the grapes used to produce our wine, and all the winemaking process is totally developed by us, without any interference or external dependence. All of our wines are produced, aged and bottled on the estate.
